You’ve probably tried a lot of things.
Extra reading practice before bedtime, flashcards, and sitting with them through homework.
Maybe a teacher mentioned they are a little behind, or maybe you already suspect dyslexia but keep hitting walls trying to get answers.
Reading difficulties are treatable with the right approach.
Children who struggle with reading need structured, explicit reading instruction that targets the skills holding them back.
That’s precisely what our reading intervention is designed to do.
We see a lot of families who were told their child scored "too high" to qualify for school services. Scoring above a cutoff does not mean your child doesn’t need help. It means they need support from someone who isn’t limited by that cutoff. That’s us!
Targeted Reading support beyond the classroom
WHAT IS READING INTERVENTION?
Reading intervention is structured, individualized support that targets the skills making reading a challenge for your child, whether that is decoding words, building fluency or understanding what they read.
At UniVie, every reading tutoring session is built on the Science of Reading and the Orton-Gillingham approach. That means your child isn’t just practicing reading, they’re learning the specific skills that improve reading accuracy, speed, expression, and comprehension with an individualized SLP reading approach that works.
Does my child need READING INTERVENTION?
Signs your child may benefit from reading tutoring with an SLP.
✓ Guesses at words using pictures instead of sounding them out.
✓ Reads the same word differently each time it appears on the page.
✓ Avoids reading, resists reading aloud or says they hate books.
✓ Trouble answering questions about what they just read.
✓ Difficulty rhyming, identifying sounds or clapping syllables.
✓ Reading below grade level despite working hard.
✓ Reading is slow, choppy or sounds like a lot of effort.
✓ Homework takes significantly longer than it should
✓ Strong verbal skills but reading and spelling are far behind
✓ A teacher or doctor has mentioned dyslexia or a reading concern.
